August 13th, 2017 – Rain….it is literally a sight for sore eyes, and sore throats, and sore lungs.
The smoke from the forest fires burning inland has made the air quality in the Lower Mainland the worst it’s been for a very long time. Its been compared to Beijing recently.
But as bad as it has been here, it’s been much, much worse elsewhere in the province. In Kamloops it was recently the worst in recorded history, and I’ve seen friends on Facebook say that they can even see the smoke inside their homes. Streetlights are on at midday, and it’s so dark outside that people have their indoor lights on in the middle of the day
A little bit of rain overnight helped clear the air in the Lower Mainland at least. It’s funny to be wishing for rain after one of the soggiest winter/spring seasons.
But the clearer air here just means that the pressure systems have changed direction and are pushing the smoke back the way it came, and it’s now being pushed into Alberta.
The fire season is far from over though, and the rain was minimal and short lived.

Hope it will clear up soon! Paige
Happy Sunday!
The fires must be terrifying. I hope you stay safe and that things improve soon.
The fires do seem so bad this year.
