December 15, 2016 – The day definitely felt festive with three separate Christmas gatherings.
The first was the RHQ gathering. Pizza, ugly sweaters, sweet things, and the annual “Thanks for everyone’s hard work in 2016”.
That was followed up with colleagues from the SEP Program heading down a couple of blocks to the Vancouver Christmas Market for a cup of mulled wine and a wander past the arts & crafts, the delicious smelling food, the ornament market, and the carousel.
And the day couldn’t have been more perfect.
On the waterfront, a clear blue sky, frost painted surfaces, and wonderfully crisp air, and as the sun set between the buildings of downtown Vancouver the Olympic torch showed off a different kind of flame.
And to round out the day, a Christmas party involving a full turkey, ham, sausage stuffing, gravy, five kinds of potatoes, roasted vegetables, sprouts, cranberry sauce, pumpkin cheesecake, raspberry chocolate square kind of dinner, followed by a Secret Santa game of present opening and friendly theft. And lots of interesting and lively conversation of course.
Oh, and it was my first deep fried turkey….delicious, and ready in an hour!
And the best part of all was the Christmas gift I’d been promised, and which finally materialized and was formalized, the Letter of Offer for indeterminant status of my position. The five and a half year wait was worth it. Definitely in a grateful mood today.
There is an odd irony to the fact that yesterday’s photo was of the moon setting in the morning, and today’s is of the sun setting in the afternoon.
Completely unplanned.

I was so tempted to buy a similar one at our local German market. What a great selection on show here.
