Day 340 – Fox Theatre

by The Philosophical Fish

December 5, 2016 – I love neon signs, real neon signs, crafted with care and attention. They always seem to tell a story to me. Like this place, it has a great story.

Originally the smallest of the Twentieth Century Fox chain of movie theatres, the Fox Theatre has been a fixture in downtown Centralia since it opened in 1930. The Fox showcased first-run film, Fox Movietone newsreels and the best known vaudeville performers of the day. It was billed as “the finest playhouse between Portland and Seattle”.

Down the block is another great sign, for Gibson House, in which resides a half decent pub where we had dinner this evening.

We have representation from Capilano (Isaac), Inch (Mary Beth), Chehalis (Shaun), Snootli (Haakon), and Kitimat (Markus and Sarah), one CA (Ian) from Bella Coola, RPSS (Greg) and myself.

I travelled down with the pair from Bella Coola. Slower start than usual, but uneventful, other than a fair bit of falling snow along the way) once we finally got on the freeway.

Snowing here again, but not sticking, although colder weather on the way and more snow in the forecast for Thursday when we drive back up.

What is it about this particular week! Sorry you aren’t here to share in the fun 😉
