October 10, 2016 – We haven’t had our turkey dinner yet, but I have a hunch that in a couple of hours I’ll feel a bit sluggish 😉

The weather was nice today so we went for a walk into the village for a loaf of bread (because I was going to make some and then realized I’d forgotten to buy bread flour!). We dropped the bread off and I popped into the pantry for a jar of apple cranberry chutney and then we went for a good walk down into Capilano Canyon.

Why would I take a jar of chutney along?

Because I knew that someone, although I didn’t know who, would be working standby at the hatchery and I thought a jar of something nice might complement whatever he/she was going to make him/herself for dinner.

Turned out that it was Bill, and he was planning on pizza, until he received the jar that is. Then he changed his mind and decided to cook a steak that he knew was in the freezer up in the residence.

Gift given, we continued on our way and wandered back through the damp and quiet trails farther from the hubbub of activity that always seems to be present near the hatchery; it’s a standard tourist spot.

Along our walk in the woods we stepped over a banana slug; I bent down and took a few shots of it as it crossed the trail at its excruciatingly slow pace. Kirk stood protectively over it as I checked the camera and then took a few more shots.

Such a West Coast creature; gross, yet fascinating, it serves a purpose in the forest and deserves some modicum of respect for its existence.

Happy Thanksgiving; no reason my photo had to be a turkey 😉

Four out of five kids love slugs and think your picture is awesome, now they want to find banana slugs to photograph. The last child thinks your picture is cute but slugs are yucky so she can’t like it.
