September 30, 2016 – It’s been two weeks of biology vs crazy person with ridiculous demands, in other words it’s been biology and common sense vs politics.
And it’s been a not-so-great week for biology as a result.
It’s not over, but I have the luck to be heading out to a remote facility early next week for a few days, so I can at least avoid the lunacy for a few days. But that came at the cost of driving myself to the edge the past two days to try and generate as many resources as I could for all the people who came at me with various requests face-to-face, and via email and telephone. I think I left my desk for a lunch break once this week, and it was 3:30pm today when I realized it was the first time I’d even left my desk to go to the washroom today, which clearly means I need to drink more water, or coffee, or both.
And on top of all of that I had three people at higher levels suggest that I should be getting ready to apply for a higher level position that is coming up, though one I am not particularly interested in.
Given that last year everyone was urging me to apply for a job lower than the one I’m currently working in, just to get some stability and permanence….my response?
“Why do all of you people hate me so much? Just give me the job I’m doing FFS!”
On the flip-side, it’s a very nice compliment this time around, and I have been told repeatedly that I am many good things….and for that I am appreciative…..and very tired.
But yes, I am completely ready to check out for the weekend.
