September 14, 2016 – I just never get tired of this flight. Every fall, for the past few years, I head for Bella Coola for a few days in September, for work.
And sometimes I get lucky and the skies are clear and I can see for miles and miles from the plane. But it’s what’s close that’s far more interesting.
This may not be the best photo today (through the window of a plane is challenging), but I love that you get a feel for how close the plane is flying to the mountains when you look at the wing and the crag it is passing.
This province is simply spectacular, and I love to fly up to this little remote part of it.
The weather was fabulous today, tomorrow is dicey towards the end of the day, and Friday looks like it will crap out completely. And that may mean that I can’t fly out of here Saturday and will have to take the little school bus up to Anahim Lake. I wouldn’t mind it, it’s an interesting trip The Hill, and it’s fun to listen to the passengers who aren’t prepared for the ride that they are about to experience 🙂
I made it to the hatchery around noon and then helped haul, hang, and bleed the ripe female broodstock, then pitched in to take DNA samples and make myself useful. Then I was handed the keys to my commuter vehicle for the next few days…..a four wheel drive Ford F-350 Super Duty crew cab, long-box pickup truck that has so much mud on the side of it that the “Canada” “Department of Fisheries and Oceans” can hardly be discerned.
Basically I was given a tank.
And I’m ok with that, because I might find some time to go for a drive and this means I can go where I might normally not.
Ahhh, a few days in a fabulous corner of the Province.
This is work 🙂
