Winter Love from the Top of Vancouver

January 10, 2016 – I wonder how many times I’ll mistakenly write “2015”? It still sounds so strange to say, and hear, “January” and “2016”.

One of the fabulous things about living on the North Shore is the proximity to the mountains. We live just a few blocks down the road from the base of Grouse Mountain and have local’s annual passes for the tram up. On a nice day it’s fun to just ride up and go for lunch at the bistro and look out over the city and the straight.

We love it any time of year. In the winter we may go up and go skiing, go for a walk and throw a few snowballs at each other, or just enjoy a drink and bask in the sun and look out over the Salish Sea, sometimes hidden under a blanket of sea fog.

In addition to skiing, there is a skating rink, a sleigh (albeit pulled by a snow packer), reindeer, and an evening hike through the forest trails covered in Christmas lights.

In the summer we’ll go up and see the raptor show, laugh at the logger show, and maybe take the lift up to the top and go for a walk on runs covered in snow during the winter months. It’s not unusual to see wedding parties having photos done, or ceremonies being performed, up here at the top of Vancouver.

It’s a beautiful place and there is something for everyone.

Regardless of the time of year, Grouse Mountain provides spectacular views of the world below.
