Looking Ahead (292/365)

October 19, 2015 – Today was voting day, a National Election and, for many, a hope for change. I voted early since I knew I’d be out of town, out in Port Alberni, on Vancouver Island.

Many people have been hoping for a change. But what change would we get? Only time would tell.

And today brought quite the change. The Liberal Party rushing back from a crushing defeat four years ago, surging ahead to take a majority in the House of Commons.

And with that, comes a new Prime Minister.

A young, charismatic, thoughtful, positive, leader. One who managed to win a campaign based on positivity, not fear. One of hope, not of scare tactics.

Attack ands and smear campaigning didn’t manage to dissuade the voting population. If anything, I think it brought more voters out to vote.

It will be interesting to see what the final numbers come in at, and whether there was an increase in voter turnout overall and, if so, what the demographics were.

Did we finally manage to wake up the younger demographics?

Time will tell.

“Jonathan Livingston Seagull” is a modern cultural legend that reinforces that essence of freedom the seagull is known for. The story is about a seagull who is disenchanted with the common way of seagull-life. He strives to break from the shackles of convention. He pushes himself to fly ever higher, and perform more elaborate flight maneuvers in an effort to be free from the mundane. When seagulls soar into our consciousness, it might be a sign to break out of the same, boring routing. It might be time to fly high, show the world our potential, and dare to be free from what the world expects us to be.

I know, right? I love these things, they all seem to have strangely anthropomorphic characteristics.
