October 18, 2015 – We found some time today to get rid of some more things from the storage locker and look for my Mom’s photo albums, which had been put away….somewhere.
During the hunt, I opened a bankers box of items left with me by one of my Uncles.
At the bottom of the cardboard box was an old metal box that was a bit of time capsule, containing items dating back as far as 1905, or perhaps farther.
There were two very old razors, some notebooks, letters, and two old wooden dip pens, worn smooth by hands long gone from this world. The notebook was covered in a soft fabric and the edges of the pages are edged in gold. A little brass box contained a collection of other nibs for the dip pen.
The items belonged to my Great-Great-Uncle John (Jack) Cumming.
The notebook contained personal information such as birth date (1883),Bank Book No., Policy number, work assurance, hat size, boot size, collar size, dates of work in around 1905-1907 in Liverpool.
It was an interesting little archaeological find.
