Aug 6, 2015 – It rained yesterday and a bit this morning, probably rained a bit during the day up here on the mountain too; the evidence – water droplets still tenuously balanced on the flower petals on this fireweed.
Rain has been hard to come by these past few months so when we have seen what little has fallen, it’s cause for celebration and definitely a reason to go out and enjoy the change. After Kirk came home from work we headed up Grouse Mountain for a walk, a bit to eat, and to enjoy a drink high above the city.
The air is already cooler up on the mountain by virtue of altitude, but the rain over the past 24-48 hours brought a crispness that was refreshing. The forest smelled of moisture and growth, the vegetation breathing and drinking in the refreshing change.
Kirk spotted the water droplets clinging to the flower petals on this fireweed plant and we marvelled at the ability of the moisture to cling precariously to the petals, surface tension holding them in a seemingly impossible position, perched and ready to fall at the slightest disturbance.
It was a difficult choice to pick from the three shots that survived the delete button. In the end, although I actually liked the third one the best, the first just gave a better feel of the day; sunshine glittering through the trees and falling on the last remnants of a precious rainfall. I liked the sun-flare and the overall image had a softness and a freshness to it that the others don’t.
