May 20, 2015 – We tried to join in on a Learn to Run clinic a few months ago, but I guess we were the only ones interested in learning during the rainy season.
Now that the sun is shining and the weather is warm – in other words as soon as summer arrived in the beginning of May – people are more interested in being active outside and enough people signed up to make a go of it.
I’ve been sitting too much the past few years, ever since I took this job, and it’s not been a good thing.
So we have finally joined a Running Room group, and with that comes accountability. We have a fabulously energetic coach and a small but engaging group, all around the same age, give or take about four or five years, and I think it will be fun.
I am going to need a new pair of shoes, I just took the first run with a pair of gym shoes that I knew going in wouldn’t cut it, and I was right. But as far as sports go, running doesn’t need a lot of fancy and expensive equipment. So a fitting for a new pair of shoes is on the agenda for tomorrow night.
Let’s run!
But first let’s shuffle along for awhile…….

Funny I was going to ask you how the shoes were. I’m looking at the exact ones to buy. Not sure how comfy they are Nd if they are rocketed enough for my arthritic toes. I don’t run anymore and am just looking for something to walk in that won’t kill my poor toes.
For me they are fine for the gym and I’ve had them for awhile, but I knew they wouldn’t work for me for running. I have fairly flat feet and these have too much arch for me for any comfort when doing anything with any degree of impact.
Get a proper fitting at a running shoe shop and get them to do a gait analysis. Everyone is different and there is no point spending money on shoes if they don’t properly fit your feet. No point in jamming a square peg in a round hole 😉
Even if you aren’t running, still worth a proper fitting….
I did that, then I went to Brian Ferrance, a very well known orthotics guy in town, he teaches at the university. He told me the shoes they told me to buy were horrible for my feet. Go figure. I need a neutral shoe with a rockered bottom and neutral heel. They told me I needed stability shoes for over pronation which made my problem far worse. Now I deal with more pain due to changing my gait to compensate for incorrect shoes.
So much for that advice then :-/
Like I said, for these are fine in the gym, but they push my feet out a bit and I think that puts pressure on the outside of the middle of the foot and my feet feel like they are cramping up as soon as I start to run. So definitely not a running shoe for me.
I was told I needed stability shoes and they were awful. I have had good service at Lady Sport on 4th Ave.
Once my back calms down I will start again. In the meantime I am on the bike. My first running experience was with a learn to run group and it was great, I looked forward to it each week.
And that’s the next thing….we got rid of our old, old, old bikes when we moved. Now I am in the market for a new one and am looking forward to exploring the North Shore a bit differently than I have for the past many years 🙂
Bicycle perusing is on the agenda this weekend.
Good luck with the run clinic! 🙂
Seen in the 365: The 2015 Edition group
Thank you 🙂
Good luck, training for a race?

No, no race in mind, just wanted to get moving again. Although the group we have started with is aiming for the 5K Pride Race in July….so we may get dragged into that.
