April 17, 2015 – Quite possibly the most interesting little flower in the garden right now. The irony is that the previous owner had two Epimedium plants, but a different, rather plain flowering type.
I bought a third last year, but it was past flowering so I didn’t really know what it was. I’d forgotten about it, and almost bought one at the alpine plant sale at Van Dusen Gardens the other week, but cheaped out and put it back. I loved the flowers, but had already picked too many plants at that point so decided to forgo it.
But how I loved that fabulous little flower, smaller than my thumbnail.
The two rather mundane yellow ones started flowering a week ago or so. Today was a day off and I spent most of it outside in the garden and discovered, to my surprise and happiness, that the one I’d planted late last year was exactly the same as that one I’d coveted and not bought.
I love little flowers that you have to get right up to the plant to see. It’s like a little treasure hunt 🙂
