April 15, 2015 – I bought one of these last year at the UBC plant sale, Kirk spent most of his time defending it as I searched for additional treasures. One man came at Kirk at least three times asking “….where did he get it…?”, then “…was I going to buy it…?”, followed later by “….was he sure I was going to buy it?”. Kirk had become increasingly irritated with him and also afraid to walk away from our cart for fear it would disappear.
I planted it out last spring, it was already past flowering. And I was thrilled when it came up again. The flower began to develop, and every day I would go out to see where it was at.
I found another one at the recent plant sale at the Van Dusen Gardens, it was almost in bloom and I couldn’t resist.
I left that one in the planter and popped it upstairs in my little greenhouse on the upper deck.
I started to worry that I’d been foolish to plant the other one and a few days later, about a day before it would have been fully open, I came out to find the flower snapped off and lying next to the plant. So out of the ground it came and into a pot…and then the plant itself got broken.
GAH!
Figures.
I’ll keep this one better protected 🙁
(Wow, this went from 97 views in the first 24 hours on Flickr, to over 1300 views by 48 hours. Thanks for the Explore on Flickr!)

Beautiful!

You may be in need of a catendectomy.
Ah, no, the cat wasn’t responsible for this. They are indoor only cats. More likely a squirrel or a skunk.
That hurst less 🙂
Not really…..
Boo..sad plant story.
I feel your pain, I planted a small but beautiful garden space last year, all at once well into growth and after being safe and protected for months on the deer finally broke in. They ate everything including the zucchini leaves. It was such a sad moment, I sympathize.
And, cool thing. I have found wild lady slipper orchids in my yard. I put markers around them so they dont get injured during growth in the early stages.
Amber, are they the yellow ones? I’ve seen the yellow Lady Slippers growing near my grandparents old place outside of Salmon Arm and I always just loved them. But too many people dig them up and try to transplant them into their gardens, and they are disappearing as a result.
Like this…
The wild Lady Slipper was my Auntie Aileen’s favourite flower. The used to grow in the woods by West Lake near Prince George.
Gorgeous Amber! The ones I remember looked like this.

Ooo, pretty. I will keep my eyes peeled for them travelling through salmon arm and area.
I remember finding them in the bush around the area on this map. Such a treasure to find…take only photographs…leave only footprints 🙂
Paige, it’s possible you were in my cousin Ron’s back yard. I’m texting him your picture…. 😮
This randy guy is funny!
Randy, I live 250 kms from PG. So makes sense. 🙂
Me too! And about 550 extra.
Amber, meet Randy….Randy, meet Amber! 🙂
Hi Amber 🙂
Randy, your cousin wouldn’t know me, but he’d know my Granny since she taught grade one in the school there for over 30 years, played the organ in the small community church, and was basically a pillar of the community of Canoe.
He used to run the radio station there. Seems to me he might have left the job.
I had a lot of family there, and many family friends. A little bit of family still around there, but mostly gone now.
Beautiful area

The golf course at the bend in the road as you pass the road down to Canoe and are heading to Sicamous….all that land used to be my grandparents farm, the old farmhouse is still there hidden behind the massive willow tree. Spent many wonderful summers, Easters, Thanksgivings, and Christmases there, and also up the hill at my other grandparents orchard.
