July 5, 2014 – We took a drive to Seattle this weekend, almost rode the motorcycles, but opted out and it was a good decision as the rains poured down for much of the drive. We saw this guy on the way down,a nd his riding group name gave us a good laugh.
For a change, we also came down mid-day rather than just down and out for dinner and a night’s sleep. So we had a bit of time to wander the streets and enjoy the sights and smells of Seattle. Next to Vancouver, this is our favourite city in the Pacific Northwest. It is similar in many ways, and so different in others.
Whenever we visit Seattle we make sure that we make the time to have dinner, or at least dessert, at our favourite place – Purple Cafe & Wine Bar. It’s an impressive place to visit with its tower of wine in the centre of the space, and its wonderful concrete bar. The place stocks something like over 600 wine labels and the selection is almost overwhelming.
We made a reservation this time (we usually forget), but even so we opted for the bar because it’s an interesting place to sit and we always end up in conversation with strangers.
This evening it was a conversation with a couple traveling on vacation from Texas. Their next stop was Vancouver, so we were providing tips on places to visit and where to eat.
Purple is a fabulous place to try new wines as they have series of tasters called “flights” that are grouped by regions, styles, or just have a complementary taste.
After dinner we wandered back to our hotel and finally managed to get into the Cheesecake Factory for a dessert. Every other time we’ve been down the place has been standing room only and a ridiculously long wait. Seattle was so quiet tonight, our only thought is that everyone is still recovering from yesterday’s Fourth of July festivities and took the night off.
I love this city!
