April 20, 2014 – Sunshine is appreciated any time of year, but particularly so in the early spring. We see a lot of rain at this time of year usually, though it’s been unusually dry here for many months. That’s not to say it hasn’t rained, it certainly has. And when it comes down, it does so with extreme gusto. Particularly here on the North Shore, against the mountains.
Probably the frustrating thing is the fact that the weather so often fails to measure up on the weekends.
There is an old joke around the coast – “What do you call a sunny day that follows two rainy ones?”
Monday!
This is Easter weekend, a long weekend, and although it would have been nice to have had a stellar sunny few days, it wasn’t to be. The sun did come out for a visit for half the day on Friday, and that was a treat. The cats particularly thought so. On a rainy day it can be challenging to find the cats. On Thursday I lost Milo for over an hour. I was starting to genuinely believe that he’d managed to get out when our contractor left for the day. Considering the fact that I’d locked myself out after he left Wednesday, it wasn’t a stretch to think that somehow Milo had managed to slip out.
I searched everywhere!
Closets, under furniture, in the garage, behind bookcases, in the fireplace (yes, he likes to sit in the back in the dark), in the laundry hamper, in the cat tree, everywhere! Loki is always easy to find, all you have to do is rattle a food dish and call, or not even bother to call, and he’s in front of you in the blink of an eye. He’s like a dog!
But Milo… not so much.
He’s infuriating because he isn’t food motivated at all, and when you call him it’s like he knows you want to find him so he goes dark. Usually you can find him because he doesn’t breathe well, he has chronic sinus issues and usually sounds like a snotty two-year old kid. But if he knows you are looking for him he manages to turn it off.
After an hour of hunting, even going so far as to walk the yard (I really didn’t think he’d have gone out since he’s a true princess-paws and really doesn’t bolt the way Loki does (did I mention that Loki is more like a dog?), I finally found him. He had slipped in behind the pillows on our bed and buried himself under them. And unlike Loki who is a hulking 17lbs and displaces anything in his way, Milo is surefooted and can pass without mussing a thread. So there hadn’t been any sign that Milo had gone near the bed.
But on a sunny day? They are both easy to find. But as always, Loki is usually easier to find since his bulk takes up most of the available sunshine.
