March 23, 2014 – Ahhhh, that felt good!
Cold!
But good!
The first ride of the year is always awesome, no matter the temperature. Just being out on the road again feels great.
Lately the weeks seem to have been gorgeous all week, and then not-so-much on the weekends.
Or maybe I’m just being a typical Vancouverite who sees weeks of sun, followed by one day of rain, and who then says “Gads! All it ever does is rain!”
No, that’s not me, at least not these days. We’ve have a pretty fabulous fall & winter.
We’ve been itching to insure the motorcycles. This is the first year I pulled the insurance over the winter. The first few years I didn’t care about rain, or cold, or anything. I just wanted to ride. Now I feel that I’ve got a good few kms under my belt, and the novelty of riding in pretty much anything has worn off. Am I a fair weather rider now? No, not really, but I just haven’t felt like being miserably cold.
The weather started off at zero this morning, frost was visible on the road out front, so we opted for safety and waited until later in the day, when the sun would come and warm the roads, dry the pavement, and be on the road we wanted to run for our little shakedown ride.
By the time we got the bikes out from their beds, checked everything out, got the new plates on, and went to add some air to the tires, it was just after 2pm. Late enough to be nice and warm, late enough that the Sea to Sky would be mostly in sun.
It was lovely. Cold, and I should have worn warmer gloves so I needed a hot drink to wrap my hands around when we got to Squamish, but it was still fabulous to be back out on the roads again. There were a lot of riders out, bikes shiny, shiny new plates on most. Most riders were well seasoned, not too many younger riders. Squids were few in number – though we did witness one instance of total squid-idiocy – most of them haven’t insured yet.
Here’s hoping for another great season of riding, here’s hoping the shiny side always stays up.
Where will the bikes take us this year?

I still haven't insured yet and almost did the other day, but decided to wait a bit longer because last year I reinsured at the beginning of March and then hardly rode. I also pulled the insurance off the bike in November because I didn't feel like riding in another cold, wet, and rainy winter season. I've ridden the last 3 and I just didn't feel like hassling with winter gear & layers. Glad you got out on your bike, I think another 2 weeks and I will be on the road again.

You be careful out there sis!…:)
I'm two weeks earlier this year than last, but sometimes I think it's just worth it to get the insurance on there. Even if it's just that one fabulous out of cycle ride….sometimes that's worth the $85 that the month cost. 😀
I hate those days when you just "wish" it was insured…. and it isn't.
Hope you get out soon and hope it's fabulous for you when you do!
