Getting close to the end….

by The Philosophical Fish

December 28, 2013 – Getting down to the nitty gritty now, the easiest ones are done and there are only 12 shots I have left to take, and three days left to capture them. I’m feeling semi-confident that I can manage to finish this challenge.

And as I am doing my best to finish up, I’ve been invited to start the next one on January 1st.

Doesn’t it always seem that you start something new, and the new year, with the best intentions? In some ways the 365 challenge was easier because it became a habit. But I’ll probably try this again in 2014, and another 52 week. But I don’t think I’m up for another 365 just yet. Three years was a long time to keep that up.

So, in the name of finishing this particular scavenger hunt challenge, here are another 7 shots taken today, in no particular order…

______

History

These are the wedding rings of my Great Grandparents, on my Granny’s side. Rather neat to have these little pieces of history.

Many, many years ago my Granny promised me one of her diamond rings, she had two. This is the one that holds the history, even if it wasn’t the one she wore.

I wonder...

…what they used to open. So many fabulous old keys collected from various places. A number of these came from my Granny’s home when we cleaned it up for sale.

Have you ever noticed how keys seem to pile up. Everyone has a dish, or a jar, or a bag, of mystery keys.

Kirk and I have our own, and we added to it today as we sorted through the keys to our condo as it is about to change hands in a few days and we have to pass the new owner all the appropriate keys. But each of us had a mystery key on the keychain and we aren’t sure what it is for. For now we have added it to the bag of mystery keys.

I wonder if these were mystery keys that kept coming along with Granny and Granddad from home to home…

These boots...

These boots…were made for walking?

A place to warm up

Loki and I warm ourselves in front of the fire. My boy is rarely far from me, particularly when the magic cave of warmth is operating.

Oscar

What is Oscar and why does he live on our stove?

I can only answer the second question – because we put him on our first stove in our first apartment when we moved to Vancouver in 1987. He came out of a box of stuff, and landed on the stove, and we left him there. So he has lived on every stove in every place we’ve lived ever since.

Why?

Why not?

Yes he’s ugly, we know.

I bought him at a garage sale in Prince George sometime back around 1985. The person who made him also had a cool pair of really ugly salt & pepper shakers that I bought for 50 cents (Oscar cost about the same). But he also made (and still makes) other cool ugly creatures, like spiders and great big clay mosquitos.

So we keep Oscar, for no real reason other than he’s just become part of the family, even though somewhere along the line we chipped his front horn. But we still love him in all his ugly glory.
