I was in a lingerie store on the weekend, waiting for a dressing room to try on something pretty. The sales girl didn’t have an empty room for me and kept going back to check. On one occasion she came out and shot the other woman a strange look and they had a somewhat hushed exchange.
Eventually a room opened up and I went in to try on my selection. A few moments later I heard a man’s voice speaking with the woman in the next room. Then I heard him say something to the effect of “I’m leaving now, they probably think we’re doing something we shouldn’t.”
Two thoughts when I realized that he was actually in the dressing room with his wife/girlfriend.
#1. I think that’s on every man’s fantasy list, isn’t it? Sex in a dressing room?
#2. Kirk was probably wondering why he had to wait outside!
There was an article in the Ottawa Citizen a week or so back that made me laugh. Canadians are seen as reserved, although I’d say that we aren’t as prudish as Americans are generally stereotyped to be, but I’d also say that we are definitely more reserved that most Europeans are typified as. The human body isn’t seen as something that should be hidden and locked behind R-ratings in Europe, but here in North America, nudity is bad?? Sometimes I think that there are probably more sexual assaults over here and that repression is a big part of the reason.
But that’s not what the article was about. It was about what we do do, not what we don’t, how often we do it, and how many we’ve done it with, both over time and at a time.
Pierre Berton was quoted as saying “A Canadian is someone who knows how to have sex in a canoe.” And any Canadian worth their mettle knows the answer to the question “Why is American beer like making love in a canoe?”
Surprisingly, there are a significant number of us who have done just that! Just thinking about it, it’s gotta be difficult, uncomfortable, and a tad inconvenient. But apparently, according to a new survey, a significant number have tried it. In fact, the survey suggested that one in ten respondents have had sex in a canoe. I think it’s a novel idea, why not really? Why get hung up on how and where and not have a little fun?
So, always open minded, I’d love to know a few things:
Was the canoe in the water? Seems it might be easier in a stable boat. But then again, the rocking on the water would probably add to the fun.
If it was in the water, was the canoe tied to a dock? You’d get the rocking motion, but wouldn’t be worried about where you might end up, what direction you might travel, and how fast.
How well did that really work with the benches and the yoke and thwarts in the way? Seems like it would involve some bruises and goose eggs.
And I’d love to know what that looked like from a distance. We’ve had the misfortune to stumble on several “interesting” scenes while boating, but it makes me giggle to think what THAT might look like from a ways off.
One just can’t help but wonder!
I don’t know if anyone I know has done it, I’d love to know, but guess it’s one of those rites of Canadian passage that I still have to make.
But not at this time of year, I think I’d like it a touch warmer before trying, it would probably make things a little easier, and keep usually easy things from getting too little. 😉
And now that I think about it, if that statistic is true, and one in ten really have had sex in a canoe, that means that at least 20 of my Facebook friends have done the deed.
Fess up, I want to know who you are!
