(340/366) Christmas Decorations

December 5, 2012 – When everything started it was the beginning of November, now here it is into December. When we came back to Vancouver it seemed like the city had draped in lights and decorations overnight. But it is just because I was away so much and so long.

Mom has so many wonderful Christmas decorations but we only had enough room to bring back a few. The main ones we brought back are all related to her wonderful Christmas Teddy Bear Tree. We will put it up in her memory this year, just wait until you see it. It’s a thing of childhood wonder. She spent so many years collecting the bears – she called it her teddy bear rescue program, most coming from thrift stores – and the variety and number are somewhat astonishing. She had the advantage of a table that offered a 360 view while we will have to put it against a wall, so that will make our version a bit less spectacular, but we will try to follow the photos she took to map it out as best we can.

The plan is to put it up this weekend. We usually put our tree up quite late as we always buy a real tree. But this year we have Mom’s, very nice, artificial one, so it can go up early.

Christmas is going to be difficult this year, the plan was for all the family to be in Prince George. Some of the most fun I have always had was finding little gifts for Mom. Even though, long ago, our family switched from “things” to donations in lieu of material items that none of us really need, I still liked finding her little things I knew she’d enjoy.

The season feels hollow now. Particularly after I found a box of items that I knew were gifts she was collecting for the rest of us. I knew they were gifts because I was with her when she bought one.

The tree will be hard to put up and I don’t have a lot of interest in Christmas parties or social events this season anymore.

(340/366) Christmas DecorationsI look forward to seeing photos of the tree. I’ve always admired beautifully decorated Christmas trees. Unfortunately, I have ever been able to decorate my own like that.

Yes…this Christmas will be hard. We all really struggled the Christmas after Dad passed. It was his favourite time of year….he was like a big kid. 🙂 All I can say is that it will get better, but I do still find Christmas to be the time of year I miss him the most. (((Hugs)))
