December 4, 2012 – We try to go to every Cirque du Soleil show that come s to Vancouver. Tonight was Amaluna, and what a wonderful show it was. The music was phenomenal – Kirk likened it to a cross between Evanescence and Trans Siberian Orchestra. The entertainers were amazing.

And finally! Finally we were able to actually use tickets we purchased.

In May, Kirk bought tickets for Rock of Ages for my Birthday. We also had tickets for the EPIC Eco-Expo. But then his father passed away and we weren’t able to use the tickets.

In September I purchased tickets for the Just For Laughs Comedy Tour for Kirk’s birthday. We also bought tickets for the Circle Craft Fair. But then my Mom passed away and we weren’t able to use them

But I also bought Cirque du Soleil tickets back in April, for a December 4th show. And we were able to go.

It was a good distraction. Today I was out at Cultus Lake helping with a sockeye egg take. The rest of the team apparently missed me last week. They knew why I wasn’t there, and they were pretty gentle about saying much. I’m glad, because it’s hard to know what to say back, it’s still difficult to keep my composure sometimes, and I just generally don’t like sympathy or pity. It’s hard to not come off as aloof when you wave off sympathy. But the alternative is harder for me. When we were alone, Cathy told me that she was glad I came all the way out, and knew it must have been difficult.

Actually, what is difficult is the almost two hour drive alone back to the city. When I am working I have something to focus on. It takes mental and physical concentration. I can’t think about much else. But when I am driving it’s a different story. My mind wanders, and thinks about memories.

So the show tonight was great to take my mind off of all the things I thought about on the way home. Yet another wonderful Cirque.
