June 19, 2012 – Lilium columbianum is a lily native to western North America. It is also known as the Columbia Lily or North American Tiger Lily. Unlike the versions one finds at a florists, these flowers are very small, the petals are only 3 – 6 cm long and curl back on themselves attractively. They can be found in open woods and forest openings from southern British Columbia in Canada south to northern California and east to Idaho and Nevada in the USA.
This one grows in my little garden and pleases me in the late spring when it springs forward and adds a splotch of colour to the greenery around the pond. And I didn’t even see the hitchhiker until after I imported the photo onto my laptop.
