The BC Provincial Parliament building in Victoria BC lit up for the season. I am spending a few days in Victoria for a fish related conference. I haven’t been to a conference for awhile, and I haven’t been to Victoria in awhile, so it was a fun trip. It was even more fun because it offered the opportunity to socialize and build relationships with some people that are part of the program I work in. But the really pleasant surprise was that a former lab-mate of mine from graduate school was there, and we spent a wonderful couple of days enjoying the talks and each other’s company. Through miscommunications we had drifted apart, but a mutual acquaintance had provided the catalyst for things to be sorted out a couple of years ago, and on the ferry ride home to Vancouver, that mutual acquaintance looked at me and said “I’m glad I interfered…” I smiled and said “So am I.”
It was a great trip.
