I came home on Friday and drove into our underground parking. As I waited for the gate to rise I looked over at the garbage area and there, next to the bin, was this gorgeous orchid plant in full bloom, with a massive flower set on it. I parked and rushed back out to rescue it from the freezing cold. I had to pull off two limp blooms, and it has been too heavily watered, but it will make is and I’m hoping the blooms will survive the insult and stick around for a month or so.
Oddly, this is the second time I’ve rescued an orchid, in the winter, from the garbage. Both white Phalaenopsis Moth orchids too. The first was about 10 years ago and it still happily kicks out a flower spike every year or so.
How can someone throw something like this out?
