If you aren’t Canadian you may not know what this game is. I grew up on it and it took us ages to find a decent board that didn’t cost a small fortune when we finally went looking for one for ourselves. We found boards that were plastic with wooden veneered surfaces that were substandard for such a historical game. We finally ended up paying a minor fortune, but the board is hand made with Canadian Ash and it is a work of art. Beautiful dovetailed joints, carefully burned detailing We picked it up a few years ago at the Circle Craft Christmas Market.
And if you don’t recognize it, the game is called Crokinole (www.crokinole.com/rules.asp) and it originated sometime in the 1800’s in Ontario.
There is something about Fall and Winter that call for getting together with friends and family for games night. Just another thing I love about when the cold settles in. The games come out!
