Nothing special, just a set of measuring spoons. But I was thinking about all the things we measure.
This week has been interesting. It started out with a professional writing course Monday, a project management class yesterday, and I was a participant in a professional leadership class today. It was quite interesting, fascinating actually. I learned a lot about myself and what I value in others. Turns out that my style is relationship based, and that I value trustworthiness as an important quality in myself and in other people, above all else.
The five personality traits that define a leader are intelligence, self-confidence (or perceived self confidence), determination, social ability, and integrity (trustworthiness).
And it turns out that the majority of the population also measures leadership by trust. Trust is defined as honesty, doing what you say you are going to do, following through on commitments, having integrity. Do you say you are going to do something and then do something different? Do you take ideas from others and then pass them off as your own? Are you yourself? Or do you try to be something that you think people want? That fosters distrust.
I’ve never really thought much about leadership qualities, but it follows that they would be the same traits that I value in people in general.
