179/365 (June 28, 2011) – Yes, I know it’s just feta. But it also makes me think about Greece and how much I want to be back there sailing under the Mediterranean sun, on that blue, blue water. It reminds me of the wonderful tomatoes, full flavoured olive oil, and feta that actually has lots of flavour compared to the bland and overly salty stuff we get here. Such turmoil in Greece right now. The riots in Syntagma Square are terrible, and although it is easy for us to say things against them and criticize them for an overly padded government system, and failure of the citizens to pay taxes, and the government to collect them, we need to remember that the unemployment rate is high, and in general, the population does not have the luxuries that we seem to think we can’t live without.
So I’ll just be grateful that I live here, and have access to feta cheese, and with a bit of hunting can find decent flavoured olive oil. And I’ll hope that things settle down a bit over there without causing another global financial crisis, so that we can go back in a couple of years and once again enjoy the wonders of a beautiful and culturally rich country, and taste their feta cheese again sometime soon.
