134/365 (May 14, 2011) – The Bloedel Conservatory was almost closed last year, but after some legal wrangling it was granted a reprieve. It was constructed through a very generous donation from Prentice Bloedel in 1969 and the public outcry over its possible closure led to a joint effort between the Friends of the Bloedell Association and the Van Dusen Gardens to manage the gardens. I’m glad it was saved. It’s small, but it is a welcome escape on a dreary, rainy day in Vancouver. I hadn’t seen this toucarou before, he was lovely and hung around for a snack of fruit for a few minutes.
