259/365 (September 16, 2010) – Uninspired today so back to the kitchen cupboards to see what might make a moderately interesting shot. Settled on a blend of brown and wild rice.
Again, it’s always interesting to look closely at some of the things we never do. The camera really does a cool job of magnifying things we never think to observe.
Rice is the seed of Oryza sativa. Rice is the single most important staple food for a large part of the world’s human population and is the second most produced grain in the world. The only more significant crop is corn (maize), but since a large portion of maize crops are grown for purposes other than human consumption, rice is the most important grain with regard to human nutrition and caloric intake, providing more than one fifth of the calories consumed worldwide by the human species.(Wikipedia)
Everyone likes a good treat, but we should probably appreciate the staples a bit more.

Great macro, Paige. I didn’t guess what it was, at all; I had to read your description.
Very cool.

Thanks Shirley. Without scale, some of it sort of looks like peanuts.
