132/365 (May 12, 2010) – Have a friend hanging for a few days, decided to go for a walk. She has always been rail thin and addicted to fitness equipment. I am…well…not. So when she said let’s go for a hike, I got scared. We agreed to go for a “walk” up the Capilano river. Turns out that we have rather different definitions of ‘hike”. What I call a hike is something that requires a great deal of energy, strength and fortitude. Qualities I am lacking. To me, hiking also usually involves a backpack. Hiking is hard work. Walking is a gentle upwards slope at the most. What I called a (moderately strenuous at times) walk, she thought of as a hike, what I call a hike…I’m not sure what she defines as.
I did OK, but I almost broke her after 16km.
She wasn’t up to the bike ride around Stanley Park after that.
But it was a great day.

It’s been stellar weather here lately! Afraid that Claudia might take the weather with her when she leaves!
