I can’t stand Twitter. But I promised myself to minimize the ranting. So I’ll just say this much.
I use a news gatherer called Socialite. It’s fantastic, I love it, it gathers all the posts from various feeds I follow. Everything from the Globe and Mail and CBC News, to a few blogs by friends, a Digital Photography newsgroup, a couple of Mac news sites (I “DO” have to stay on top of everything Mac now that I’ve been brainwashed), a Mediterranean sailing information site, Flickr and Facebook. And while most of those are fine, it’s the Facebook one that is driving me insane. I like to keep on top of what friends are doing….but please, please, please…if you are on that infernal thing called Twitter…do NOT link your Twitter account to your Facebook account. If I wanted to follow you on Twitter, I would subscribe to your feed so that I could know what you are doing every bloody second…but I don’t… seriously, if someone actually wants to read what someone else writes…they will voluntarily subscribe to it, or link and visit and read when they choose. Don’t ram it down their throat!
In the past three hours, one person has “tweeted” (I hate the lingo, it’s so stupid) 11 times! (Hold that, we are now up to 12)
So every few minutes my Socialite program pops open and tells me this person has posted something that is starting to feel like telemarketing…at best it’s SPAM. Visit this site, check out this link, go here, do this, see that… and now, unfortunately I am caught because I feel like if I block this person I’ll miss normal conversation, and if I unfriend her, well…it feels like I’m in elementary school again… I like her a lot, I just want her to stop with the constant Tweets in my Facebook!
OK, I ranted…. damn, and I promised myself I wouldn’t…so this says it in a calmer and more rational tone than I’m able to…. Why I Hate Twitter
Seriously though, if someone wants to read your tweets, they will follow you…don’t force it on them in Facebook…please?
