Recession?

by The Philosophical Fish

Recession? What recession! Who would have thought it would be difficult to spend $50,000!?!?

Our friendly North Shore Toyota Dealer didn’t come through and so I whizzed down to get my deposit back. He whined again and asked me what I was going to do. I told him that we’d looked across the line and cold get what we wanted down there. It was funny, but he seemed mildly disappointed…not int he loss of the sale…there was something…slimy… there…but I couldn’t put my finger on it. I figured it out later though. Kirk spoke with another dealership who is willing to play ball…or at least he says he is.. and that dealer told us that North Shore Toyota had hidden the original vehicle I ordered so that another dealer couldn’t sell it. So…probably Peter thought I would try elsewhere to get the same vehicle and this was his childish way of getting back at me. Who knows. I don’t really care, it means that the money stays in investments for longer and makes more money for us. Seems OK to me.

So we find out this week sometime what Downtown Toyota will do for us on a truck with a delivery date in December. And they WILL deal with the tire issue. If not…I can broker one out of the US for a bit less and actually get a model not available in Canada..in a colour not available in Canada.

On other “recession” fronts… we are shopping for appliances for the kitchen and went into Harvey’s Appliances recently. We are looking for a new fridge, a stove and a convection/microwave/range hood unit. We went in and waited…and waited, and waited. Two salespeople on the floor brushed past us and didn’t even acknowledge our presence. To be fair, they were both dealing with customers…but a simple “I’ll be with you shortly” or “can I answer a quick question?” would have staved us off. But we waited for over 20 minutes, part of that with me actively leaning on the sales counter, before we finally threw up our hands and left. So obviously Sears will get our money for those things.

I know they keep saying that we are in a recession…but when you can’t actually spend the money you want to spend because people either refuse to deal or don’t even bother to provide any sales service…well, it makes me wonder…. whatever happened to the “service” in “Sales and Service”…for that matter…what happened to the “sales” part?
