A year or two ago I had a student take one of my courses. He did virtually nothing all term and I assumed that he’d quit the class. It’s University afterall…his responsibility…not mine. I’m not a babysitter, but it would appear that he needed one. He hadn’t done the required 30% course work to be eligible for the final exam so i blocked him out of it. And…30 minutes into the test, I received a panicked email saying he couldn’t access it. Well…yes…because he hadn’t done any work!
He made some lame excuse about thinking his face to face courses were more important than this online one and therefore figured he could just do all the assignments after he wrote the exam…oh yes..and hand them in for me to mark on my Christmas holidays. Let the whining begin. I tossed him to the Faculty and told him I’d respect their decision. They said forget it..eat the fail. He received 8%
Then he took the course again last year…and did even less…he received, wait for it…0.8%
Now we are wrapping up another term and … yes… he was back…and he has officially reached a new low. He did not do one ounce of work. He will receive a mark of 0%.
I didn’t think it was possible to hand out a zero for anything other than academic misconduct…never considered no conduct…
