I really love Vancouver! And I really love the Celebration of Light. It is threatened with cancellation every year, but somehow manages to hang on and continue, sometimes at the eleventh hour. I can’t imagine how much these fireworks shows cost…it must be phenomenal, and I feel sorry for the fish and various critters in the water and the park… but it was truly amazing. The music was The Wizard of Oz and the fireworks display included some shapes and colours and displays that I’ve never seen before.
Can’t wait to see what Saturday holds for the next contender.
And it is so fantastic to watch them from the water, we were out on a friends boat…. It was strange though, normally the boats are thick and crazy, bumper boats are normal and all the dweebs who have no idea what they are doing anchor poorly and drift into each other. Last night it was completely sane and there seemed to be enough room between everyone.
One interesting even occurred though. We stuck around until many of the boats had left, makes it easier to pick the way back, and over the radio came a call from someone under tow indicating that another vessel was adrift and in distress near Siwash Rock…. right where we were. We saw them wildly flashing a light to get attention and nosed in as close as we could go to call out to them and ask how many aboard. Deb called to them that we couldn’t get closer but told them to paddle our way if they could…they started and shortly thereafter several harbour patrol vessels showed up to help so we continued on our way.
The waters, even close to home, can become dangerous so easily.
And I managed to not fall off any curbs and kept both ankles intact…knock on wood….
