This morning we see our scheme artist billing two more boats. Somehow we feel better that he’s a regular scam artist and not a one off that we alone got hit with. Besides, he was friendly to us today and wished us a good morning. We feel a little less concerned about leaving the boat for the day now.
After checking with multiple tourist agencies we find that the only tours to Olympia are on Monday. We aren’t staying that long so it does not appear that we will make it there. We looked at renting a car, and going on the ferry is prohibitively expensive. There are no car or scooter rentals in Kilini either. We are stymied. Unless we take the boat to Katakolon we will not manage Olympia.
Scooters are also scarce in this town. We check in several car rental agencies and tour operators and are told no. Finally we find a tour operator who calls “The Guy” for us and we wait for him to arrive with two scooters that we will rent for 24 hours. He will bring the scooters to us at the agency and it sounds like we can leave them at our boat for him. That would be convenient.
So, we will have to satisfy ourselves with getting to Lagana where the turtles nest, visiting the Venetian fortress, and looking down on shipwreck beach, where we briefly anchored yesterday, from the cliffs above. Olympia wasn’t actually on the “to-do” list so although it would have been very cool, we will have to satisfy ourselves with where we have come.
Oh look, only one scooter. Oh well, we’ll manage, besides, at least we can chatter this way…. off we go….
