Morning in Sivota

by The Philosophical Fish

We have lovely, warm, thick, heavy blankets in the vee berth. It’s very cool at night and every morning I seem to wake up with three feet of them over my head. Kirk just isn’t as talented at the cover game as I am. He loses every time. His interpretation….”Kirk is more generous than I am” Not likely…… We may change things up a bit…Kirk wants his own column called “Kirk’s Eye View” We’ll see where that goes…..

We’ve decided to hang out here for an extra day. Last night we went to the internet cafe and had a couple of cappuccinos and checked on the Canucks, will need to do it again today I suppose since they were scheduled to play last night and we were ahead of the game when we went online. Sivota was alive with cheers and sighs over a soccer game that was underway.

I also want to check out some other chart plotting software. I’m really not happy with the one we are using. But the options are limited. I had only found three for the Mac and one will not work with the main GPS unit we have, although it may work with the secondary one. I’d give a lot for Fugawi for the Mac….but they are entrenched in the world of Microsoft so no luck there.

It’s always interesting trying to identify where we are. Our charts are in German, the books are in English, and every town and Island has at least three spellings (in addition to the Greek alphabet). Right now we are in Sivota, which is also called Syvota, Sivota Mourtou, Mourtou or Voulis. Take your pick.

The bird calls here are amazing! The sounds coming out of the trees range from tropical tweets & trills, doves cooing, sparrows chirping, swallows … making whatever sound it is swallows make, roosters crowing, seagulls chattering, …. and a crow???? But they don’t look like our crows, this fellow was sporting a tuxedo!

No major sunburns yet, but the bruises are starting. While this isn’t quite the “ouch boat” that we had last time….there are a few places that I just keep knocking myself. Nailed the table this morning and should be sporting a good bruise on the leg my tomorrow. It’s a boat…what do I expect.

One thing I have always wondered about, and if anyone can answer it for me I’d appreciate it. There is a sound I hear from time to time at home, I think in Horseshoe Bay Marina….but occasionally elsewhere too… and I hear it here right now. It is almost like a fire crackling and snapping and popping. You only hear it when you are down in the boat, so it is a sound that is traveling through the water. But I am mystified as to what its cause is! If anyone knows, let me know because the curiosity is annoying!

Well, we should fill out our Port Authority forms and maybe wander up to the quay for breakfast at the Blue Coast. How can we resist eating where the Canadian flag is flying?

Maybe the crow sporting a tuxedo is a magpie?

Sally – I DO know the difference! 😉 And to the best of my knowledge magpies don’t “caw” like crows 😉

Monica – I can only assume they are in good shape, I m pretty sure we’re the first of the boat for the season and it’s in good order otherwise.

Glenn – Not so many aquatic mammals in this area….

We stayed in Corfu a few years back – I love these tiny jetties jutting out into that crystal clear blue water.
