Plans are forming

by The Philosophical Fish

OK, so in amongst all this wedding planning I have been thinking about Greece and starting to poke around for boat prices. We had thought that we would head out from Pireaus again. But now that it is just the two of us on board, we are a bit more flexible.

In fact, we wavered for a moment and took a look at boat charter prices in New Zealand and the Narrow boats in the UK. Prices weren’t any better though and, since it’s really going to end up being our honeymoon, we are going to go back to Greece where we are sort of familiar with things.

However, prices have really jumped since we were there last time and this trip is proving to be much more expensive than the last one was….which is sort of freaking me out. When we were saving for this trip, the ridiculous cost of a wedding wasn’t factored in since it wasn’t on the calendar.

And so I begin to barter with charter companies.

So anyway, we are going to head to Corfu this time. From Corfu we will wander down through the Ionian islands as far as Zakynthos (Zante) and back up. Four weeks should be a good leisurely trip that allows us to spend a few days in each place, or move on if we aren’t enthralled.

The Cyclades were almost overwhelming since there are so many and we knew we couldn’t visit them all. The Ionian region is comprised of seven main islands: Corfu (also known as Kerkyra), Paxi, Lefkada, Ithaki, Kefallonia, Zakynthos, and Kythira. Kythira is outside of the Ionian sea and down at the bottom of the Pellponese…not sure why it is included in the Ionian group, and we won’t be venturing down that far so Zakynthos will be our Southernmost stop, I think.

It will be quite a different Greece than we experienced last time as the area is heavily influenced by the Venetians and is currently the playground for British tourists.

So…unless something really drastic happens, that’s the current plan.

Now I have to get back to panicking about the wedding…..

if you are planning a wedding in Corfu there are many web site that can help you. For weddings go to http://corfuholidays.biz and mail the web master. He will probably be able to come up with a few suggestions.

Oh, we did think about it, but we were married here in Vancouver last month in the end. Preferred to go to Greece without any plans, particularly wedding plans. But thank you!
