March 6, 2015 – My third helmet since starting riding. The first was a modular front Scorpion with integrated sunglasses. It was fine, but I never really liked the flip up style because it seemed noisier, was definitely heavier, and my logic says that something made of more than just a single moulded piece simply can’t be as robust.
Helmet number two was/is my Shoei RF1100. Love the helmet, have nothing bad to say about it except that on trips of several days or more pulling it on and off really chafed to the point of making me look like I had a sunburn. The pads and lining just weren’t as soft as I’d have liked. The other downside to it was that I always had to carry at least two shields with me since a transitions shield was not available for it. It’s also reached it’s five-year mark and a new one seemed reasonable.
So I ordered this one back in January and it finally received today. A Bell Star carbon with the Dunlop replica graphics. As my former supervisor said to me once… “Dress to crash Paige, but you have to look good too.” I liked that advice, and it matches both my gear and my bike too, bonus! 😉
The first time I tried the Bell it didn’t fit my head shape well, but they’ve changed it since then and it fits “well” now…. I say “well” because I take an extra-small in it (where I took a small in the Shoei RF-1100), and it makes my head feel like it’s in a vice!
I’m sure the padding will compress a bit, but currently it’s pretty darned tight.
So Wall-E has some new style 🙂
