Snacks in Whistler

Edamame

July 21, 2013 – No new townhomes on the market in the past two weeks, at least not any that fit what we are looking for. So what to do on a gorgeous Sunday? Well, when I walked into the bedroom and found all my gear laid out on the bed the answer was pretty much spelled out for me. Go for a ride.

We are trying to refrain from doing REALLY long rides on Sundays and save those for Saturdays, since they drain us for Mondays and that makes for poor work habits 😉

So it was a leisurely ride up to Squamish for a coffee, and then on to Whistler for refreshments and a snack at Citta, one of our favourite patios in the heart of the Village. My former UBC supervisor introduced me to edamame at a restaurant in Banff many years ago, I’ve loved them ever since and they make such a nice salty snack.

Brohm Lake Trail

On the way back we finally stopped at the side of the road to photograph a foot-bridge I’ve always found scenic. The roads were busy today, but no serious attempts were made on either of our lives by drivers, though there was certainly a great deal of aggression and some plainly stupid moves. But then that’s pretty normal around here. After a brief stop at the Brohm Lake Trail, we were back on the bikes and heading home to wash and put the m away for the week.

But not before a bit of a beating through Squamish. Howe Sound always blows up in the afternoons int he summer. We know this well from our years of boating and always tended to tuck into some nice anchorage until around dinner time, when everything dies down again. It’s just the nature of the topography around here. But it makes for some interesting riding around the Chief sometimes. Today was one of those really gusty days and the winds can come at you from either side of the road, sometimes randomly alternating and often somewhat unexpectedly. You learn to watch the trees through there.

Both Kirk and I were being buffeted around pretty solidly. It was one of those times where the safest place to be is int he middle of the lane so that you have a buffer to each side in case you are suddenly hit with a big gust. And there were a few of those. But it keeps things interesting 😉

Once home, the bikes were cleaned and polished, and given a bit of chain lube, it’s always nice to put them away pretty-fied. Kirk is off to the Prairies and I’ll likely just be on Pee Wee all week. And my big bike was still a bit filthy from its Monday/Tuesday ride up Vancouver Island during the week, so a thorough cleaning was in order.

Another great weekend. Love this place!
