Nothing much to say today….tired after a long day around fish and tired thinking about a long drive ahead tomorrow to a remote site on the outer coast of the Island.
Today did not go as planned, in fact it went anything but as planned. The fish weren’t exactly cooperative and the one fish we had to find in a tank of 20 seemed like a phantom fish. And what should have taken an hour took several, and that meant I didn’t get to spend time with a science tech to learn a couple of techniques I was supposed to learn… we can (hopefully) take another shot at it again.
But it wasn’t all bad. It started and ended with an amazing float plane ride on a crystal clear day, with no air turbulence, and a flat calm ocean below. On the way home I even saw the start of a bubble ring…somewhere below the water’s surface were some humpback whales circling a ball of herring and getting ready to feed on them…but the plane was past them before they surfaced. That was ok, since I’d never seen that from above before, but my camera was in my boot in my bag of gear. But I had some great time for discussion in the car ride from the seaplane terminal and back with one of my most awesome hatchery managers.
So all I have for today are these locks.
I don’t really get the fad, but it seems sweet.
