97/365 (April 7, 2010) – I’ve just never really been a breakfast eater. I try, sometimes. And I do really love weekend brunch. But I am looking forward to BC strawberries. These relatively tasteless things from California just don’t cut it.
Studies have linked healthy breakfasts with less chronic disease, increased longevity and better health. Starting your day with a good breakfast boosts your energy, increases your attention span, and heightens your sense of well-being. It gives one better control of one’s emotions. A good breakfast is said to be one that provides at least one third of the day’s calories. When we get up in the morning, our glucose or blood sugar level is at its lowest point in the day. Glucose is the basic fuel for the brain and central nervous system so a good breakfast will keep one from being tired and irritable by mid-morning. The effects of a skipped breakfast are short attention span, lack of alertness, longer reaction time, low blood sugar, decreased work productivity.
If only I could manage to actually do it!
Maybe more fruit…..
