Day 348 - Childhood memories

Explanation? I don’t really have one. Well, maybe I do. I was out In Thunder Bay visiting my best friend just as the Olympics were ending and we were shopping one day. We went through some funky little store and they had miniature Gumby and Pokey dolls. I didn’t buy them, tho’ I later regretted it. For a couple of dollars I should have picked them up because they made me laugh. But it was too late.

Then today, while doing a bit of Christmas shopping in the mall, I turned and there they were again. And the last set in the store. It was a fait accompli. Just another pair of silly things to add to my little toy box of silliness and childhood memories.

The fellow who sold them to me said how much he liked watching the show when he was younger. I replied, “..yes, me too, but I wasn’t watching reruns..” 🙂

Actually I am rather amazed how long the shows were produced. 233 shows were filmed in the original run, and it lasted from November 12, 1955 – December 30, 1989. Interestingly, the Simpsons started on December 17, 1989… Video Killed the Radio Star, so did Homer kill Gumby?

Day 348 - Childhood memoriesI don’t think we ever had Gumby and Pokey dolls this side of the Atlantic. I certainly don’t remember them and, yes Paige, I am thinking about the time when my daughter was a child before you go pointing out that I am much older than you ;)))

Day 348 - Childhood memoriesI had never heard of Gumby and Pokey but my friend in Vancouver kept on about them. When we came to Canada last year he gave me these models to bring home!
