Day 342 – Fuel

by The Philosophical Fish

December 7, 2016 – The conference I am at is in the Great Wolf Lodge, which is heaven for children. The kids are already jacked up on their magical quests and the indoor water park, so a rainbow array of sugary jelly beans to fuel them seems….. logical.

This place is a weird venue choice for a fisheries conference. In the main entrance and lobby area there is a gingerbread (real) cottage that you can pay to have your dinner in, there is a log cabin with a talking moosehead, a really creepy animatronic boy that pops up from a hollow log, and Pocahontas regales children with stories, oh, and it snows several times a day …. inside.

Absolutely everywhere one can find screens, stuffed animals, treasure chests, and magic books that are activated by a magical wand that children wave at it in their quest to become a magician. (All at a cost to the parents, of course).

When I checked for “adult” activities here, all I found was the fitness room and the spa. There isn’t even a decent bar, and you’d really think that should be a basic adult necessity in a hotel crammed to the rafters with kids.

However, there is a certain irony that there is a marijuana shop right across the street, LOL!

It is certainly the most unusual place I’ve attended a conference.

That said….the waterslides are freaking awesome and I wish I hadn’t waited until an hour before they closed on the last night to try them out.

I'd love to hear from you :)

Delightful display! Who wouldn’t be tempted? Looks like watermelon is the most popular?
