Day 281 – Fish Fountain

281/365 (Oct 8, 2011) – All the years I’ve walked and driven through Gastown and I’d never noticed this fountain. And we’ve parked near it several times too. Or maybe I did see it but I was always on a mission and so it never really registered. But today I took the time to wander over and actually LOOK at it.

I started using The Daily Shoot as a coaching prompt to try and make this year’s 365 Challenge a bit easier. Now that The Daily Shoot has closed I realize that in some ways it was making getting my daily shot more difficult as I was always trying to find something specific rather than take a photo of something that simply appealed, appeared, or that captured a moment, creative or otherwise. I loved The Daily Shoot for its creative inspirations, and I’ll miss the website because it allowed me to see what others did with a challenge, but I’m also looking forward to finishing this year out with whatever captures the interest of my lens.

Goals are great, but sometimes they make us miss the real opportunities because the challenge becomes too all consuming and therefore the fun of the unexpected becomes secondary to achieving some specific end. Sometimes we get blinded by the very thing we thought was helping and fail to see the possibilities for enjoyment that are right in front of us.
