Day 266 – The Saga of the Salmon Salad

by The Philosophical Fish

September 22, 2016 – Ever have one of those dinners that you can’t ever….get?

On the way home, given that it was First Friday, we stopped in at our neighbourhood watering hole for a bite to eat and a glass of wine. Queen’s Cross has the best fries, and they come alongside a really great order of panko crusted chicken strips with Thai chili sauce or a fabulous mustard curry sauce. I usually ask for both because the curry sauce is fabulous with the fries and the Thai chili sauce is fabulous with the chicken.

The pub also makes a pretty yummy salmon salad.

I ordered the chicken, Kirk ordered the salad…..

It didn’t go well for Kirk.

When the meals arrived, the waitress we’ve come to know pretty well had an odd look on her face as she put the salad in front of Kirk.

Kirk hadn’t looked at the food, only her face, and asked what was wrong.

Mandy pointed to the salad and said “You didn’t order that, did you?”

Nope….

She grabbed it and went back inside, and came out to tell us that they were remaking the meal, correctly this time, and that she had taken it off the bill. We laughed and thanked her, and said it wasn’t a big deal since Kirk could snack on my fries….I wouldn’t eat them all.

A long time later she came back out…laughing and said …”Since we’ve become such good friends, I just know you’re going to love this….. They remade the salad, it was gorgeous…and then, as they put it on the pass-through from the kitchen….they dropped it.”

More laughter, and she said “It’s going to be the best salad EVER by the time you get it!”

Eventually, long after my plate was empty, she came out with the salad and put it on the table, and we said….”Could you possibly wrap it up, since he ate a lot of my fries, he’s not hungry anymore.” LOL!

More laughter all around, and she took it back inside. When she brought it out she told us that when she put it back on the pass-through she (cruelly) told the kitchen staff that Kirk had said it was a completely crap salad, and rendered them speechless!

And then she laughed and laughed.

See why we like her?

Sometimes something just isn’t meant to be, and there is absolutely no reason to be a jerk about it.

There are two ways you can react when something doesn’t go right….

#1. You can be a jerk and rant like a four year old (too frequent by too many)

or

#2. You can roll with it and make the best of whatever gets thrown at you.

Option #2 is usually the better choice.

I'd love to hear from you :)
