Day 242 – Heat Magnet

August 29, 2016 – Loki is attracted to heat like a moth to a flame. When I turned around and found him on the counter snuggled up to the jars of tomatoes I’d just taken out of the canner, all I could do was laugh…..and take a photo.

August 29, 2016 – Loki is attracted to heat like a moth to a flame. When I turned around and found him on the counter snuggled up to the jars of tomatoes I’d just taken out of the canner, all I could do was laugh…..and take a photo.

Almost at the end of the tomatoes….today I got my last 9 jars of chopped tomatoes canned, and put up 18 jars of super delicious and garlicky tomato sauce.

I also got 10lbs of peaches in jars, not much, but enough for the two of us when everything else in the pantry is taken into consideration.

Left in the garage after a trip out to the produce stand in Langley are;

• 6lbs of tomatoes measured out and waiting to be turned into a new batch of balsamic ketchup
• a few pounds of red plums to turn into a last batch of tart and tangy jam
• a few pounds of beets to be cooked and canned for impromptu salad additions
• I’ve also got some extra peppers back there, may or may not turn them into a jar or two of pickles. I haven’t decided what to do with those yet
• And last, but not least, a pound or two each of cannellini beans, navy beans, and black beans to soak, cook, and can. But I can do those any time.

And then I’m done for the season.

Loki will be sad.
